Heard Howland Pulled Artis Scholarship
My buddy told me that Howland thought Artis was playing poorly at Findlay practices (barely played in the scrimmage against Gorman) and pulled his scholly. Any hear anything about this?

Heard it. I can believe it. It's not like we have scholarships to give away. If Howland doesn't believe a kid can cut it, pull the scholarship. There is no time to play Mr. Nice Guy. We need to win.

I don't believe it. First, it would completely sever ties with the Oakland Soldiers program, a program that UCLA has tried very hard over the last couple years to repair relationships with after the Drew Gordon fiasco. Second, I doubt the Artis camp would still be speaking so highly of UCLA if that were the case. Third, most sources are saying that UCLA coaching staff was "blindsided" by the de-commitment. Finally, you'd have to think that Howland would have been in contact with other PG targets if he truly did pull the scholly, and I haven't seen any evidence that this is the case. Tyrone Wallace anyone?
Sorry, I don't believe it. This rumor just sounds like some sour UCLA fan is trying to make an excuse for Artis de-committing (e.g., We didn't want him anyways!)

Hopefully we get him back. I think he is a much better prospect than Wallace. Are we still even in play with Wallace, though? I feel like we made him a back-up plan all along which he must not like.
