  • Interview with Top Basketball Recruit, Zena Edosomwan

    Brett Pierce

Here is a bruinsball.com exclusive interview with 2012 Power Forward, Zena Edosomwan. Edosomwan is rated as the number 128 player nationally in the 2012 class according to rivals.com.

Can you tell us how your senior season is going so far?
Zena Edosomwan: It’s going okay. It’s getting better. I think we’re 10-8 right now. Our record is not that great, but we’re getting better. Hopefully we’ll make a late season run and do a better job.

What’s the main difference in your play between this season and last season?
Zena Edosomwan: I feel like the biggest difference is I’m a lot more patient and I’m a way better passer. Defensively, I’ve done a much better job blocking shots and rebounding.

What did you do in your off-season to improve in these areas?
Zena Edosomwan: Honestly, just making sure I work on fundamentals. On defense, keeping my hands straight up instead of leaning them forward and picking up a silly foul. Also, just understanding timing off the block, not just throwing my hands at somebody as they’re going to the basket, but just really timing when that ball is going to go up.

What are the main schools you are looking at in your recruitment right now?
Zena Edosomwan: Washington, Cal, USC, Harvard, UCLA, and Texas.

Have all of those schools offered?
Zena Edosomwan: Yeah, all those schools have offered.

How close are you to making a decision?
Zena Edosomwan: I’ll be committing in the April Signing Period.

What do you like about UCLA and Coach Howland?
Zena Edosomwan: First of all, it’s tradition. And Coach Ben Howland does such a great job of developing his players and you see so many of them do well in the NBA. Also, it’s close to home. UCLA is really big time and it’s a great place.

What is Coach Howland saying to you to try to get you to come to UCLA?
Zena Edosomwan: He thinks that I could be an impact player and be a part of a great tradition. He says sasically just work hard, and hopefully I can compete if I plan on going there.

How important is it for you to stay home for college?
Zena Edosomwan: it’s important, but I’m honestly open to anything. As long as I feel like it’s the right situation for me and my future, then that’s where I’ll go.

What are the main factors that you are looking for in a school?
Zena Edosomwan: I really want a family atmosphere, good academics, and just a mixture of basketball and academics.
