  • Interview with Incoming UCLA Tackle, Simon Goines

    Brett Pierce

Here is a Bruinsball.com exclusive interview with incoming UCLA freshman, Simon Goines. Goines is a 3-star recruit, according to Rivals.com, and stands at 6'8" 300 lbs.
He was committed to Missouri up until a few days before Signing Day, and then switched his commitment to UCLA.

What factors made you finally choose UCLA?
Simon Goines: I just felt really comfortable there. They recruited me a lot harder than any other school.

Who was your main recruiter from UCLA?
Simon Goines: Coach Mora and Coach Klemm.

What did they like about you, as a player, that made them recruit you so hard?
Simon Goines: I was physical and really athletic. I had quick feet.

What are some of your goals coming into UCLA?
Simon Goines: To start as a freshman and really just show my full potential.

What do you plan to do in the off-season to get to where you want to be? Do you have a target weight?
    Simon Goines: A solid 315.

How do you plan to get to that weight?
Simon Goines: I’m not going to really change anything diet-wise, but I’m going to lift a lot more, and a lot more running.

You are from Texas and you were committed to Missouri up until the end of your recruitment. How hard was it to choose to leave you’re hometown, and also decommit from Missouri?
Simon Goines: It wasn’t really hard to leave my hometown, but it was hard for me to decommit because I liked it a lot. That was my first love. Then UCLA came and I just felt it was the best fit.

Besides football, what are you most looking forward to at UCLA?
Simon Goines: Getting a good degree so I can get a job after football.
