  • 2014 Forward Shaqquan Aaron Likes UConn, Arizona, UCLA

    Special from UConnBall.com

    Joey Natale

UConnBall.com catches up with 2014 forward Shaqquan Aaron to talk about recruiting. Aaron said that UConn, Arizona, and UCLA are standing out for him at the moment.

UConnBall: How was your AAU season this summer?
Aaron: Well, I started off playing Dream Vision and it was a powerhouse team. I was the youngest on the team so I didn’t play much so then I decided to go to the Southern California All-Stars and get myself out there so I could play more and get better.

UConnBall: What do you feel you improved most on?
Aaron: My defense. I heard people say “we all know he can score, but can he play defense?” So I wanted to prove to people that I can play defense by working hard on it.

UConnBall: What other areas do you need to work on?
Aaron: Just getting stronger and keep working hard.

UConnBall: What schools are recruiting you right now?
Aaron: Arizona, UCLA, UConn, Kansas, Kentucky and there was a couple schools that came watch me play at school like Pittsburgh and other PAC-12 schools too.

UConnBall: Out of those schools, who is recruiting you the hardest?
Aaron: I would have to go with Arizona and UConn.

UConnBall: Who are you talking to at UConn and what are they telling you there?
Aaron: Well, my parents called them the other day but I wasn’t home so I didn’t get to talk to them. My parents spoke with them about setting up a visit. They want me and they watched me this summer, they also told me that I could bring good things to the program.

UConnBall: Who are you talking to at Arizona and what are they telling you?
Aaron: I talked to all the coaches at Arizona. I have an offer from them and they’ve been on me pretty strong now.

UConnBall: Who are you talking to at UCLA and what are they telling you?
Aaron: I talked to an assistant. They’ve been telling me that this is going to be their biggest year because they’re going to get some top recruits. They’re hoping they land Kyle Anderson next week.

    UConnBall: What about Kansas?
Aaron: They came to games. So they’re not exactly on me yet but they’re coming up.

    UConnBall: What about Kentucky?
Aaron: I’ve talked to an assistant. They’re a nice east coast program that’s coming in.

UConnBall: Would you say there’s any schools standing out?
Aaron: The schools standing out are Arizona UConn an UCLA, those three for now.

UConnBall: Do you have any visits planned?
Aaron: I’m not sure when yet, but I would like to visit UConn soon.

UConnBall: Do you have a timetable on your decision?
Aaron: Well it is early. I’m not sure if I’ll commit early or at the end of my senior year.

UConnBall: Who do you model your game after?
Aaron: I play like Kevin Durant, he’s a scorer and I can pass and defend so, I guess I play like Kevin Durant.

UConnBall: What are some things you do off the court?
Aaron: Hang out with my friends and family and play video games and just go out and have fun.

UConnBall: Do you have a favorite food?
Aaron: Seafood, I like crab and shrimp.

UConnBall: What music artists do you listen to?
Aaron: Lupe Fiasco and Drake right now.

UConnBall: Do you have a twitter handle so we can follow you?
    Aaron: Yes, @theQ_21
